The Brothers Grimm
Thursday, 23rd May 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

Brothers Grim began six years ago when James and Matt Grim (Australian Guitar Player Magazine's 'Guitarist To Look Out For' in 2011) began writing songs inspired by the dusty blues music they grew up listening to, but driven with the intensity and excitement of the rock n'roll bands that informed their youth.

To fuse these elements of old and new - think Australian heavyweights like Chain, The Loved Ones, Rose Tattoo and Beasts Of Bourbon with a healthy twist of rockabilly swagger - the Brothers enlisted Hellbent Revelators drummer Stephen Devlin, infamous for his dynamic style, and the welcome double bass talent of Dominic Lindus who's thunderous approach and ability to combine complicated slap with subtle traditional blues playing made him the perfect candidate.

Once the line-up was solidified, BGATBM's self-branded 'Sex-Voodoo-Delta-Blues-Abilly' was cemented in an exciting musical concoction often described by journalists as 'dangerous'. Atop that fire-y foundation, Brothers Grim And The Blue Murder's built a smouldering live reputation that engages dedicated punters with a combination of blush-worthy charm, razor sharp wit and explosive performance.

After three years of constant touring - following a sold out launch for their debut LP A Year To Forget [2011] at the legendary Corner Hotel - and sell out shows up and down the east coast, Brothers Grim earned their reputation as a well-oiled touring hybrid blues machine through loads of sweat, even more swagger and not a little swooning.

Currently recalibrating from a recent Rock It Festival appearance alongside The Black Keys, and the debaucherous tour for single 'Been A While' - Brothers Grim And The Blue Murders are warming up at Westcoast Blues & Roots, where they'll share stages with legends Robert Plant, Iggy Pop and Ben Harper, before heading out on the nationwide tour of their new 7 track EP Roll It In.

Coolio
Wednesday, 26th June 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

Coolio's Biggest hit Gangsta's Paradise hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was the #1 single of 1995 for all genres. It's global reach swept the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Austria, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand.

Coolio began rapping from a young age and performed in many local Los Angeles rap contests as a youth. Coolio made connections in the Los Angeles rap scene and ended up joining the group WC and the Maad Circle in 1991. Their debut album was regionally successful but didn't make much impact on a national scale.   Three years later, Coolio signed to Tommy Boy Records and released his debut solo album, It Takes a Thief. This album contained the hit single Fantastic Voyage; Coolio's breakout song. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it one of the biggest rap singles of the year.   In 1995, Gangsta's Paradise became the official anthem for the blockbuster movie Dangerous Minds. It instantly hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was the #1 single of 1995 for all genres. It's global reach swept the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Austria, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand.     The album Gangsta's Paradise was released in 1995 and was certified 2X Platinum by the RIAA. Along with Gangsta's Paradise, the album also contained the major hits in "1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin' New)" and "Too Hot". Soon after, Coolio released My Soul containing the hit C U When U Get There.   Over the next decade, Coolio released four more albums, "Coolio.com" (2001), "El Cool Magnifico" (2002), "Return of the Gangsta" (2006), and "Steal Hear" (2008) and appeared in numerous films and television appearances. In 2008, Coolio hosted an online cooking show, Cookin' with Coolio for the network My Damn Channel. A companion cookbook called Cookin' with Coolio: 5 Star Meals at a 1 Star Price was released on November 17, 2009 to critical acclaim.

Billions Australia presents ABBE MAY - KISS MY APOCALYPSE NATIONAL ALBUM TOUR
Saturday, 22nd June 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

This is a filthy record. "Pop" is a filthy word. Abbe May does not care if you are offended by the lack of guitars in this album. She says "Kiss My Apocalypse".

Kiss My Apocalypse is unashamedly sexual and would almost be romantic if it weren't for the vitriol. The product of two summers, the album was created over 18 months of experimentation with producer Sam Ford and a Mellotron in a little studio in Perth, Western Australia.

The album follows 2011's AMP-nominated masterpiece "Design Desire". A heavy, guitar drenched experimental rock record which opened international doors and cemented Abbe May as one of Australia's most lauded female artists.

"Design Desire was a deliberate trip into 70's psychedelia and an intentional marrying of that with reverb drenched enya-esque 80's vocals, ' said Abbe. "I'm bored with standard rock. I'm bored with the standard 'cool'."

Design Desire spawned four singles including Mammalian Locomotion which prompted MTV US' Nic Harcourt to write "Abbe May plays a scorching guitar- she is the fucking shit" and influential blog Popmatters to proclaim "Abbe May is set to destroy the entire rock world". The dark, yet unmistakable pop fusion of the album achieved a near clean sweep of four star reviews and led to national tours and inclusion on some of Australia's biggest festivals including Big Day Out, Pyramid Rock and Meredith.

Kiss My Apocalypse is a completely different animal. Minimal guitars. Maximum synth driven doom pop. It's as if the vocals took over while the guitars were passed out in the bathroom.

"Pop is sexy when done well and it's incredibly difficult to do it well if you try too hard, " said Abbe. "We wanted to get away from music that took itself too seriously. I'm so tired of this whole shoe gaze - it-cost-a-lot-of-money-to get-a-haircut-that-looks-like-i-haven't-brushed-my-hair-in-months type sh*t. "Artists" in denial that they are basically just entertainers. Being an entertainer is more meaningful if you ask me. It's not such a selfish pursuit."

Daniel Champagne
Sunday, 9th June 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

I'm a 23-year old Singer, Songwriter and Guitar player originally from the South Coast of NSW, though I call anywhere home now. I picked up some music from my dad when I was five and since I left school and went on the road it's taken me on some pretty amazing adventures.

I've now performed all around North America, The United Kingdom, Europe and of course Australia...many times. Including some massive festivals such as our own Woodford, Byron Bluesfest, Port Fairy Folk and Falls. I've also had the honour of touring and sharing stages with some of my big heroes and inspirations such as Lucinda Williams, Judy Collins, INXS, John Butler and my all-time favourite Kelly Joe Phelps.

I released my first full length album 'Pint Of Mystery' in 2011 and have just finished work on the follow up - It's called 'The Gypsy Moon (Volume 1) I'm extremely proud of it, very exited/nervous for everyone else to finally hear the songs and will put it out on an Australian tour this April/May/June and then North America from July. I really would love you all to check it out, get the free download, share it with some friends and let me know how it all sounds to you?

That's what I've got to say...Here are some very kind things that people have written about me over the last few years...

"Today I saw the Future of Folk! - Festival goers flocking in their thousands towards the main stage to witness the young musical phenomenon from Australia dish out an absolute show-stopper at the evening's end."
Firefly Column, USA

"Watching Daniel Champagne perform is a once in a lifetime experience. He is a true prodigy that plays like no one else could possibly play unless they spent at least two lifetimes studying the art."
BW Review, New Zealand

"The superb talent of Daniel Champagne can't be explained by mere words; it must be seen to be believed."
FasterLouder, Australia

"There's a reason Champagne has an amazing reputation as a live performer."
Timber And Steel, Australia

"Australia's best young guitarist"
IFC President, Australia

"An amazing rising talent."
Rhythms Magazine, Australia

The Audreys
Saturday, 8th June 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

To label The Audreys as just another roots-folk band would be a tragic mistake.Taasha Coates should have been a nightclub singer, crooning like Lena Horne before a starstudded crowd at the Cocoanut Grove in 1950's Los Angeles. Tristan Goodall, on the other hand, would probably choose to be reborn as a member of Crazy Horse rocking out Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere in 1969.The Audreys is the common ground where these two extremes collide and, extraordinarily, coalesce.

Taasha and Tristan's musical partnership has endured plenty over the last ten years -
countless miles on the road cooped up in vans; hundreds of shows (from tiny dives to the
world's biggest festivals); a series of immeasurably talented band members; crippling writer's
block; relocations between Melbourne and Adelaide; three albums, each of which won an
ARIA Award for Best Blues & Roots Album (which has to be some kind of record!).

Since the release in 2012 of "Collected", a box set containing all three albums plus bonus
material, The Audreys have been hitting the road as a duo playing some beautiful venues
across Australia. Talented, warm and disarmingly funny, the pair delight and entrance their
audiences with grace and grit in equal measure. Come and see The Audreys play tracks from
all three of their albums (along with their signature quirky covers and a new song or two) at
The Speigeltent before they take off for the states to play South by Southwest.

Ash Grunwald + SCOTT & ANDY from THE LIVING END!
Thursday, 6th June 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

Ash's friendship with Scott Owen - world-renowned bass-straddler for The Living End - developed quickly around the coal pit in Ash's backyard over many a soy sausage and a surf report. The two gent's wives would form their band Mr Cassidy and soon enough, the lads themselves, would stand side by side on the stage as well. And as things tend to do, one thing led to another, and soon The Living End's drummer Andy Strachan would take to the road with Ash too, playing a handful of highly-received festival shows to Melbourne and Perth punters, who were delighted and shocked to see the coming together of these seemingly unlikely three.

And if it weren't already unexpected enough...after a couple of rocking shows, Ash and his unforeseen band comprising two of Australia's most successful, rock musicians would end up in a studio together recording live to tape, the heaviest, banging-est version of Gnarls Barkley's 'Crazy', known to man. Which of course, they would. Check 'em all out in the film clip:

'Crazy' film clip feat. Scott and Andy from TLE

Rather than let this sonic anomaly gather dust on none but the trio's own shelves of memory, Ash decided to send it out into the world - an aural totem of the spontaneity of life; and a cracking version of one of the world renowned bluesmen's all time favourite tracks.

'Crazy' single released as a free download NOW

And now they're taking it to the streets! Don't miss Ash Grunwald with Scott and Andy from The Living End tearing it up at a venue near you.

2012 was a huge year for Sydney's Chance Waters; he released his acclaimed sophomore album Infinity which debuted at #54 on the ARIA Charts, was nominated for Unearthed Artist of the Year at the 2012 J Awards and his video for second single Maybe Tomorrow (ft. Lilian Blue) was voted #7 in the 2012 rage fifty ahead of M.I.A., Alt-J, Grimes, Tame Impala and The Temper Trap among others.

Chance Waters then proceeded to secure not one but two entries in triple j's Hottest 100 with Maybe Tomorrow (#89) and Young & Dumb ft. Bertie Blackman (#45).

2013 is promising to be an even bigger year for Chance Waters as he announces he is hitting the road and embarking upon a huge 19 date tour.

Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

Named by LIFE Magazine as one of the MOST IMPORTANT Americans of the 20th Century, *Afrika Bambaataa* is a Musical visionary, DJ extraordinaire, living legend and founder of the Zulu Nation. Bam, as he's affectionately known, has done more for the culture and music of hip-hop, funk and electro than most could dream of. In fact, he's even the person responsible for coining the term "Hip Hop" in reference to the movement.

The man behind Hip Hop/Electro Funk classic 'Planet Rock' over the years has co-produced and performed with the likes of James Brown, George Clinton, Fort Knox Five, Leftfield, Uberzone and Tribe Called Quest among many others.

Bam's futuristic soundscapes became a major influence in the development of not only hip-hop, but have been instrumental in laying the foundation for Breaks, Electro, Freestyle, Techno and House music as well. "Planet Rock"

has become arguably the most sampled song in music history, having been remixed and sampled by the likes of Paul Oakenfold, Westbam, George Acosta, LL Cool J, Mariah Carey and countless others. Bam's track "Renegades of Funk" was also famously covered by Rage Against The Machine.

Still extremely active, Bam continues to record, tour and educate, maintaining his status as a living legend and forefather of the art. In 2006, Bam was honored for his incredible achievements by VH1 at the annual 'Hip Hip Honors' show. In 2007, he was nominated for induction into

the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In 2012 Bam accepted an appointment at Cornell University where he will speak to classes, meet with students, community groups and perform the music he helped create and expand.

Barbarion
Saturday, 4th May 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

The Barbarion stage show combines historically inaccurate, sexually ambiguous and highly flammable costumes with hastily assembled pyrotechnics in confined spaces along with 'carefully' choreographed guitar moves and plenty of exposed flesh. There is rarely a dull moment. Furthermore, they hold the mantle of the heaviest band in Melbourne with a combined weight of nearly 700kgs

BARBARIoN are powerful and fertile MEN and they are ready to conquer your face..   Early in 2007 Myles-Harald Tauchert decided to combine his love of 80s metal and hazardous camp theatrics to create a band of heady excess. Seeing as nobody liked him much he had to settle for a bunch of eastern suburb b-graders and has-been, shabby Melbourne musicians who together are BARBARION.   Since then they have managed to hammer, weld and bash together all manner of hard-core rock and soft-core metal concepts into a sound that makes some people.. uncomfortable. See their contender for film clip of the year here: http://vimeo.com/22506211 BARBARION - My Rock   Highlights in recent times include; playing the Big Day Out Australian tour, Meredith Music Festival and Boogie Music Festival (all 2011), supporting international touring bands Alestorm (2013), Andrew WK (2011), Jeff the Brotherhood (2010) and Pulled Apart By Horses (2011), the release of their debut music video, 'My Rock' (2011), appearing on the Australian music trivia show 'Spics and Specs (2012) and the recording of a series of singles (2012) released in 2012/2013.   Barbarion have played many successful club shows in venues across Australia over the past 5 years and look forward to their first European tour in mid 2013.   Let us all gather on this glorious evening and rejoice in the fatness of ROCK and the final, uncompromising excellence of METAAALLL!!! AAAAARRRRGGGHHH!!!!   AAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   $10 + BF / $13 on door

Pharoahe Monch PTSD Album Launch
Wednesday, 17th April 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

The wave of Hip-Hop runs through all of us with certain keys touching all of us at certain levels. Where some flood the masses with a river of average music, Pharoahe Monch, throughout his storied career, has always chosen to attempt to reach the souls of Hip-Hop folk with high caliber lyricism over a wide variety of music inspired by some of the greatest musicians of all time.

An artist from birth, the Queens, NY born and bred emcee began his experience with
expression as a visual artist, putting his heart and soul on canvass. While in art school,
Pharoahe was introduced to Hip-Hop culture through its visual manifestations of graffiti and
fashion. From there he discovered DJing and rapping and instantly recognized them as the
viable means of expression they have been since their inception. To Pharoahe, art is a
unifying force that brings together all divisions.
Along with his partner in rhyme, Prince Poetry, Pharoahe began painting on the canvass of
Hip-Hop with a critically acclaimed run as the legendary Organized Konfusion, bursting on
the scene with the creative and inventive "Who Stole My Last Piece of Chicken". The group
took off with the remix of "Fudge Pudge" featuring O.C., the only guest appearance on their self-produced, self-titled debut. The album was critically lauded for the duo's inventive rhyme schemes, jazz related production and densely packed lyricism that challenged their listeners and stretched the boundaries of conventional Hip-Hop.
From there, the duo took another creative leap forward with sophomore release Stress: the Extinction Agenda. The album was also low on features and high on concept and expression, notable for the narrative "Stray Bullet" which chronicles the path of a bullet through the life of it's flight path. This concept was later "borrowed" for inspiration by Hip-Hop legends Nas
on "I Gave You Power" and Tupac Shakur on "Me And my Girlfriend". Also notable is the track "Bring It On" which features Pharoahe Monch delivering one of the greatest verses of all time with a rapid fire staccato, yet melodic delivery, internal rhyme schemes and breath control techniques that pushed him to the forefront of his contemporaries in rhyme, solidifying Monch as an emcee of the highest order.
Following their third release, The Equinox, a high concept album with narratives and a
running storyline that, while intensely creative, was not as well received as their previous work, Organized disbanded, leaving Pharoahe Monch to create on his own canvass and express himself as a soloist, which he did with aplomb on 1998's highly touted Internal Affairs.
With Internal Affairs there was no compromise, allowing Monch to craft one of the greatest underground Hip-Hop albums ever. Decades before Drake, Monch sang his choruses with soul driven melody on songs like "Queens" which chronicled the tragic life of an aspiring athlete taken under by the mean streets. "Simon Says", the crowd moving hit powered by a
Godzilla movie sample, itself became a monster single, propelling Monch to commercial success. The song appeared in the block-buster movie Charlie's Angels, and well as Boiler Room, which also featured "Right Here."Monch took a break from album crafting following the dissolution of Rawkus, but he wasn't totally gone. In 2001 he appeared on the soundtrack to the Denzel Washington Oscar winning vehicle Training Day with the unapologetic "F**k You". He also played the role of ghostwriter for Sean "Diddy" Combs on his 2006 well-received album, Press Play. Monch's hand is evident on tracks, "The Future" and Havoc of Mobb Deep-featured track "The Holdup."
After a label bidding war, he resurfaced 8 years later with another Universally lauded album,  Desire, garnering attention from mainstream media and song placement on the highly popular Madden NFL 08 video game. This time, Monch spread the production out and focused on his
delivery, again crafting verses of variable speeds, deliveries, rhythms and concepts like very few have ever done.
In 2011, Pharoahe Monch released his W.A.R. (We Are Renegades), taking a stand for higher thought and for the love of the art in Hip-Hop culture; standing firm against the commoditization of the music and so many lowbrow approaches to the art form. Pharoahe's upcoming album P.T.S.D (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) is the follow up to his 2011 release W.A.R. (We Are Renegades) album, and will allow him to put a period on the end of that sentence and move on.P.T.S.D. was originally slated to be an EP released last summer but when Pharoahe started
writing it he found he had more to say than he could fit in that time so he expanded it to a full-length album. The album features production form Marco Polo, Lee Stone, The Lion Share, Boogie Blind as well as Pharoahe himself and also see's a reunion with Rawkus comrade Talib Kweli.

SPIT SYNDICATE - Sunday Gentlemen Album Tour
Saturday, 13th April 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

Out of Sydneyâs Inner West, Australiaâs infamously charming hip hop duo Spit Syndicate (Nick Lupi and Jimmy Nice) return with third LP Sunday Gentlemen (Feb 22nd 2013 â"Obese Records). Here Nick and Jimmy bare all, revealing thoughtful, deeply personal, sometimes confronting stories with their now-renowned flair.

Their 2010 follow-up Exile cemented their progression, with lead single 'Starry-Eyed' enjoying four months of high rotation on triple j and spurning four national tours that year alone. Joined live by DJ Joyride, the trio carved a reputation for their explosive live show which in turn got them onto stages with everyone from 360, Horrorshow, Illy, Bliss n Eso, Drapht, Cypress Hill and Lupe Fiasco, not to mention on festivals such as Pyramid Rock, Peat's Ridge and Good Vibrations.

Sticky Fingers
Friday, 12th April 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

The four piece Newtown misfits are mis-spending their youth while we watch. Since then the band have spent their time re-fining and re-defining their sound, a mega-hectic, psychedelic, reggae, as the colourful review above suggests, that'll have you trading your flat screen for a ticket to ride, surrendering your dignity to your urges, throwing shapes around rooms with people you've never met.

"sticky fingers ... some how managed to magically combine whimsical English folk, West Coast psychedelia, and classic dub reggae and make it all work... surprisingly seductive." push magazine.

"Caress Your Soul" the bands first single from their upcoming debut album produced by Dann Hume.

It's all about happy endings. And that's what you get when you shake together the offspring of a brothel owner and an inner city ex-rock player, add couple of parts Kiwi and a fraction Brazilian. Happy endings and the garage/pop, psych/soul mash of reggae known as the Sticky Fingers sound.

These Sydney based rude boys of the inner west are delivering a refreshing vibe to the Australian music scene. The band began when drummer Beaks and bass player Paddy, met busker Dylan, one night outside the Coopers Arms hotel in Newtown. Dylan, fresh from N.Z. and not yet 18, was on the streets with his guitar busking for coin outside the pub. "We met him, " Paddy says, "when the Coopers Arms bouncer started hassling us to give the dude money".

For the comparison minded: the Kiwi dub bands and the bands of the English two tone rush get a shake in the Sticky Fingers sound, they're all doused in textural, psyche-y and atmospheric melodies that push out the S.F. rhythm section's blunt soundscapes.

From group's existence, the Stickies have supported the likes of Children Collide, Urthboy, Amy Meredith, Art Vs Science, Lowrider & Kingtide. While wanna be popstars work chat rooms and facebook to an inch of their lives, Sticky Fingers work the live room. Already highly rated by anyone that crosses their path, the band's live show is on the up and up.

The band's first mini album, (the ironically titled), Extended Play was released on Oct 30 2010, mixed and co-produced by Nick Higgins (whitely). For their first release, in April 2010, they went into Megaphon studios and re-recorded, Ones and Murderous Nerves, the best songs from their earlier demo's.

Next was a limited edition Sticky acoustic recording, in amongst the musical ghosts of the Annandale...."Happy Endings". Sti Fi had been promising to make it since they toured nationally with Donavan Frankenreiter and in January 2012 finally gave it to its fans. Happy Endings scored great support around the country and internationally, picking up a stack of JJJ and Unearthed play in the months following its Oct release and June 2012 and introducing Sticky to a wider audience.

Happy Endings has also just gone out on a compilation in the U.S.with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's and abunch of other choice U.S. new comers.

Now back, singing about feeling low and getting high, the band has recently recorded a stack of demo's. In the short amount of downtime between April and the start of June the Stickys have been hard at work getting the songs together for their next release.

"Caress Your Soul" the bands first single from their upcoming debut album (coming soon).
