Discount Adult Zone is a new music project from Xray Dubs. It's a house/disco style project around the 120bpm tempo.

Just to celebrate the completion of my Master's thesis (I got a HD). That's why musically I've been so dormant this year. This is a half-finished track called "Bango Bingo" for no other reason that I tried to copy the tom-tom rhythm from a classic Chicago acid track called "Bango Acid" and it's also got a super-obvious sample in it which you'll hear at the start.

This is a piece still in development (really there is 16 bars of this, I've arranged it into a simple build up/down sequence). It's extremely cliched gaybar disco electro which really needs some sort of double-entendre bondage lyric sung very well by a proper divo/diva -- but I think its a guaranteed dance floor filler in every disco in the country. These last two tracks are exactly the sort of thing that Discount Adult Zone is trying to be - sparkly disco contrasted with stark acid/house and a big serving of sadomasochism. In red glitter high heels and a black rubber strap on.

Not quite one year ago I released the first version of this track, as the first of "Discount Adult Zone" output. I have been laggard in releasing a lot of material this past year because writing my M.A. thesis has got in the way! This next year (and many years after that), a possible PhD will also get in the way of my spare time. However over Xmas I've been able to write a couple of new tracks, and do a new mix of this track, which I like a lot better now. New drums, I toughened it up, shortened it, and added distortion and fx. Enjoy!

I finally got my studio operational again.

This is just an idea I mucked about with over Easter. James Brown has to be about the most sampled artist in the history of sampling. The "Funky Drummer" sample is basically the most sampled rhythm ever (only the "Amen" break could lay similar claim) and it was the ubiquitous sample of the early 1990s.

However, this set of three compositions bear little relationship to any of those sorts of tracks. I've returned to my ambient roots (which you can hear a lot of on the Clan Analogue album "Aphelion One" which I produced over a 15 years ago). The samples in these recordings have been processed and mangled beyond any hopeful recognition. The three compositions are here presented as a ZIP file for you to download. The artist is "Mr Please Himself", and the three titles are:
