Absent Kelly Introducing: Francis & Boyd
Saturday, 15th June 2013
229 The Venue, 229 Great Portland Street, Fitzrovia, W1W 5PN
June's installment of our monthly Introducing show at 229 brings you a stunning line up of Indie from around the UK all headlined by the fabulous Francis & Boyd. After impressing a mammoth crowd at Absent Kelly's recent Scala show with Bloc Party, Francis & Boyd are back, this time topping the bill

Their beautiful mix of folk and Indie gives them a touch of the Mumfords and translates wonderfully live, their energy on stage is just totally electric

The bill is also being graced by Nottingham Indie, Brit Poppers, The Swiines

Gaining slots on Radio 1 and having shared the stage with acts such as The Subways, The Rifles and White Lies, this is definitely a band with credentials

Frontman Scott Bugg is also cousin and former band mate of one of the biggest young men in Indie right now, Jake Bugg

And if these two bands weren't enough we've got a handful more for you on top

You'd be mad to miss it.

Catalan Music Festival - Coming Home
Tuesday, 14th May 2013
Rich Mix, 35-47 Bethnal Green Rd, Shoreditch,E1 6LA
A second part of their last work, Mumbai, recorded live in India

It was in that moment when the pianist from Barcelona decided to open a new path towards jazz-world and, in particular, towards the encounter between traditional Hindu music and jazz

True to his style, it contains lyric songs and unhurried melodies, which can experiment an unexpected shift

The relationship between the piano and the sitar is present in six pieces, especially composed by Jaume Vilaseca for the sitar, which fully gets into the language of jazz and fills the melodies with Indian echoes

Apart from this, we can find a reference to the flamenco universe in Paseos, a samba-jazz called Laberintos, and the most lounge piece of the record sang by Violetta Curry, that wrap it up

It is a smart and daring proposal, completed by the experience of a group of first-class musicians

Jaume Vilaseca - PianoStudied piano and harmony in the Conservatori Municipal de Barcelona and in the Liceu de Barcelona

He attended courses and seminars to widen his studies

Since 2002 he leads a jazz-fusion trio that has kept the roots of jazz while looking for flamenco and Latino rhythms and melodies

They have played in jazz festivals all around the world

In 2013 they recorded Coming Home, the sixth work of the trio, as a result of the intense collaboration with the sitarist Ravi Chary

Dick Them - Bass and double bassHe began his jazz and harmony studies in the Aula de Música Moderna, and in the Taller de Músics. He has attended several seminars

And he has played with many internationally known musicians like Max Sunyer, Sheila Jordan, or Max Sunyer

Ramon Díaz - Drums and "cajón"
He studied in the Centro de Estudios Musicales de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, his hometown, and in the Taller de Músics de Barcelona

He has made several seminars

He has played with many international recognized artist during his activity in the world of jazz like ave Schnitter, Jean Toussaint, or Chano Domínguez.
