This Year's Ashes
Friday 21st March 2014 - Saturday 19th April 2014
Rear 2 Chapel St, St Kilda
Ellen?s moved from Melbourne in pursuit of a new life in shiny Sydney. Stuck in an office job she hates, she has no friends and speaks to no one back home. Ellen prefers the company of strangers ? drinking with them, sleeping with them and ideally never seeing them again. But now it seems that whatever she?s trying to leave behind her is refusing to let go, and the anonymous guy she?s brought home might not be so anonymous after all. Originally premiered at Griffin Theatre Company in 2011, This Year?s Ashes is a hilarious, touching, bittersweet comedy about relationships and loss. Of moving and moving on. And the cricket.

Jane Bodie is one of Australia?s most brutal, insightful and bitingly funny writers. Her plays have won multiple awards, including the Victorian Premier's Literary Award for Drama and a Green Room Award for Outstanding Writing. She was a nominee for the Patrick White Playwrights' Award and has written for TV and radio, including The Secret Life of Us and UK?s Moving Wallpaper.

Directed by Tim Roseman, Artistic Director Playwriting Australia, This Year?s Ashes features Daniel Frederiksen, Rosie Lockhart and guest actor, Jeremy Stanford. Set and Costume Design is by Kat Chan, with Lighting Design by Hartley T A Kemp.

More on: DEEDRAH/TRANSWAVE

Fr?d?ric Holyszewski, also known as Dado and Deedrah is a French music producer mostly known for his psytrance projects such as Deedrah, Transwave + Krome Angels and Synthetic.

This man repeatedly woos crowds and long-time fans to the beat of his productions. Ranging from solo projects as Deedrah, as he is known in the circuit since 20 years now, or the most recent band formed little over 7 years ago, the KromeAngels, he stands to face anywhere between 5 to 30 thousand eager fans on gig!!.

Once in the scene in the mid 90?s as a self-made rock band, Vision Quest, Dado met Christophe Drouillet with whom he would form the legendary group Transwave. In only 2 years they reached mind blowing success releasing 4 full length albums in total. The duo gained firsthand experience selling and producing the entire CDs themselves from creating the sleeves, recording the albums, and even directing the first video for the international trance hit ?Land of Freedom?.

The band, more active than ever, performs relentlessly in front of music thirsty dance floors!!

All this experience eagerly propelled Dado to create his first ever studio in a Paris basement. In ?97 he created QuestionMark records to form a structure for French and international artists providing not only a label for promotion but also supporting a recording and production system. The first Deedrah album ?Self-Oscillation? was released under this label, as well as 3 compilations ?The Groovebox?, ? Anologique? and ?Digitale?. The first album ?Cypher? was released with the cooperation of TWISTED Rds. UK. Under QuestionMarks label Dado worked alongside artists like TSUYOSHI, SUZUKI, ASTRAL PROJECTION, TALAMASCA, GMS, TOTAL ECLIPSE and remixed for bands like THE DELTA, HALLUCINOGEN , ASTRIX ,KOXBOX and KILLING JOKE.

As if not enough, Dado created another alias ?SYNTHETIC? first releasing the fantastic Metalgear with TWISTED Rds, then releasing the first album on SOLSTICE MUSIC. Synthetic being now the alias of choice for more techno 125 bpm oriented recordings ( on labels like IBZ recordings or Mago Mago RDS )

The Dado snowball picked up momentum growing like an avalanche and he, together with DMT NAKOV and SERGE SOUQUE of Total Eclipse came together to form GBU (The Good, The Bad & The Ugly ) still playing at the most important festivals of the techno scene: Sonica, The Glade Mother and Solstice Music Festival in Tokyo. Dado kept busy through contracts with Sony to compose the opening tune and sound effects of the ps2 game Grand Turismo3. Parts of his studio activities being nowadays designing loops and sounds for IOS applications ( alongside Japanese company "total immersion" based in Tokyo )

Instantly his presence became known through his sexy melodic beats, Dado inevitably began attracting world-wide attention to his DJ sets and Lives in destinations all over the world, gaining the opportunity to work alongside different talent who still regard him as a master in the engineering and technical aspect of music production?. His talent and knowledge of music is wide spread as his versatility in style.

Deke Dickerson
Friday 14th March 2014
Manning Bar, Manning Rd, The University of Sydney
Deke Dickerson is one of America?s musical treasures. As an entertainer and musician, he has toured the world and established himself as one of the foremost purveyors of roots music, headlining festivals from Las Vegas to Finland.

Deke formed Untamed Youth at age 17 in his hometown of Columbia, Missouri. The now-legendary surf-garage band released a total of eight full-length albums. In 1991 he moved to Los Angeles and joined Dave Stuckey to form the Dave & Deke Combo, a partnership that yielded two albums and a much-touted 2005 reunion at major rockabilly festivals. Embarking on a solo career in 1997, Deke was immediately signed to HighTone Records and released three albums for the label, touring nationally as a solo act and as an opening band for Cake, Mike Ness, and the Reverend Horton Heat (who has written on his website: ?Deke Dickerson is the best rockabilly guitarist in the world!?).

In recent years Deke has also toured nationally as a lead singer for the legendary instrumental band Los Straitjackets and with the great Western guitar-and-steel-guitar duo Biller & Wakefield. He has toured as a stripped-down rockin? three-piece band and as a swingin? rhythm and blues fivesome with saxophones and piano. On his many recordings, he has had guests as diverse as the doo-wop group the Calvanes and punk guitar legend Billy Zoom.

Playing an average of 225 shows every year throughout the United States, Europe, Japan, and Australia, Deke spends his rare moments at home with recording projects (he owns his own label, Ecco-Fonic Records) and writing articles and liner notes for music magazines and CD box set reissues.

Peace Train The Cat Stevens Story-Whyalla SA
Thursday 20th March 2014
141a Nicolson Avenue, WHYALLA SA 5600
Continuing on from his successful tour in 2013, Peace Train ? The Cat Stevens Story is back and touring Australia from February ? June 2014.

Since its debut performance at the Wagga Civic Theatre back in 2009, Darren Coggan?s Peace Train, has gone on to inspire many others, playing to standing ovations in the most prestigious venues in Australia including The Sydney Opera House.

This tour of this shows? incredible journey sees Darren recreating Cat?s timeless, intimate songs as they were originally written - on an acoustic guitar and piano, seeking out the man in the music and telling the story behind the songs.

?It?s been a wonderful journey touring Australia with this show and presenting Peace Train in a more intimate setting as been met with an amazing reaction from people all over the country,? said Darren Coggan. ?The singer-songwriter genre and particularly the music of Cat Stevens lends itself beautifully to an acoustic setting. It?s good to go back to the well and hear the songs as they were originally written, on just an acoustic guitar and piano.?

Back in the 70s, Cat Stevens was the ultimate rock star. Talented, charismatic, with a seemingly endless succession of beautiful melodies streaming from his imagination, the international singing star had everything. He sold more than 60 million albums, earned enough money to last several lifetimes, and enjoyed all the trappings of fame. But he wanted more out of life. So at the height of his career he shocked the world by taking his last bow. The music stopped and Cat Stevens was no more.

Peace Train is a night of music and story-telling which will strike a chord deep inside the heart of anyone who longs for something more, a journey back in time, with songs that still resonate today. Hear twenty-four hits sung with remarkable authenticity by one of Australia?s most exciting artists. From Moonshadow, to Morning Has Broken, Wild World, Father & Son, First Cut Is The Deepest, Hard Headed Woman and Peace Train, Darren Coggan traces the path of a man who never stopped wondering about how to make the world a better place.

Darren Coggan has toured extensively with stage shows Grease ? The Mega Musical, Happy Days ? The Arena Mega Musical, and Shout ? The Musical Of The Wild One. He has appeared regularly on TV, including several guest appearances on Channel 7's All Saints and currently is a presenter on Sydney Weekender. He has also been awarded two Golden Guitar awards at the CMAA Country Music Awards in 2001 and 2008.
