The Brothers Grimm
Thursday, 23rd May 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

Brothers Grim began six years ago when James and Matt Grim (Australian Guitar Player Magazine's 'Guitarist To Look Out For' in 2011) began writing songs inspired by the dusty blues music they grew up listening to, but driven with the intensity and excitement of the rock n'roll bands that informed their youth.

To fuse these elements of old and new - think Australian heavyweights like Chain, The Loved Ones, Rose Tattoo and Beasts Of Bourbon with a healthy twist of rockabilly swagger - the Brothers enlisted Hellbent Revelators drummer Stephen Devlin, infamous for his dynamic style, and the welcome double bass talent of Dominic Lindus who's thunderous approach and ability to combine complicated slap with subtle traditional blues playing made him the perfect candidate.

Once the line-up was solidified, BGATBM's self-branded 'Sex-Voodoo-Delta-Blues-Abilly' was cemented in an exciting musical concoction often described by journalists as 'dangerous'. Atop that fire-y foundation, Brothers Grim And The Blue Murder's built a smouldering live reputation that engages dedicated punters with a combination of blush-worthy charm, razor sharp wit and explosive performance.

After three years of constant touring - following a sold out launch for their debut LP A Year To Forget [2011] at the legendary Corner Hotel - and sell out shows up and down the east coast, Brothers Grim earned their reputation as a well-oiled touring hybrid blues machine through loads of sweat, even more swagger and not a little swooning.

Currently recalibrating from a recent Rock It Festival appearance alongside The Black Keys, and the debaucherous tour for single 'Been A While' - Brothers Grim And The Blue Murders are warming up at Westcoast Blues & Roots, where they'll share stages with legends Robert Plant, Iggy Pop and Ben Harper, before heading out on the nationwide tour of their new 7 track EP Roll It In.

Coolio
Wednesday, 26th June 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

Coolio's Biggest hit Gangsta's Paradise hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was the #1 single of 1995 for all genres. It's global reach swept the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Austria, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand.

Coolio began rapping from a young age and performed in many local Los Angeles rap contests as a youth. Coolio made connections in the Los Angeles rap scene and ended up joining the group WC and the Maad Circle in 1991. Their debut album was regionally successful but didn't make much impact on a national scale.   Three years later, Coolio signed to Tommy Boy Records and released his debut solo album, It Takes a Thief. This album contained the hit single Fantastic Voyage; Coolio's breakout song. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it one of the biggest rap singles of the year.   In 1995, Gangsta's Paradise became the official anthem for the blockbuster movie Dangerous Minds. It instantly hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was the #1 single of 1995 for all genres. It's global reach swept the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Austria, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand.     The album Gangsta's Paradise was released in 1995 and was certified 2X Platinum by the RIAA. Along with Gangsta's Paradise, the album also contained the major hits in "1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin' New)" and "Too Hot". Soon after, Coolio released My Soul containing the hit C U When U Get There.   Over the next decade, Coolio released four more albums, "Coolio.com" (2001), "El Cool Magnifico" (2002), "Return of the Gangsta" (2006), and "Steal Hear" (2008) and appeared in numerous films and television appearances. In 2008, Coolio hosted an online cooking show, Cookin' with Coolio for the network My Damn Channel. A companion cookbook called Cookin' with Coolio: 5 Star Meals at a 1 Star Price was released on November 17, 2009 to critical acclaim.

Billions Australia presents ABBE MAY - KISS MY APOCALYPSE NATIONAL ALBUM TOUR
Saturday, 22nd June 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

This is a filthy record. "Pop" is a filthy word. Abbe May does not care if you are offended by the lack of guitars in this album. She says "Kiss My Apocalypse".

Kiss My Apocalypse is unashamedly sexual and would almost be romantic if it weren't for the vitriol. The product of two summers, the album was created over 18 months of experimentation with producer Sam Ford and a Mellotron in a little studio in Perth, Western Australia.

The album follows 2011's AMP-nominated masterpiece "Design Desire". A heavy, guitar drenched experimental rock record which opened international doors and cemented Abbe May as one of Australia's most lauded female artists.

"Design Desire was a deliberate trip into 70's psychedelia and an intentional marrying of that with reverb drenched enya-esque 80's vocals, ' said Abbe. "I'm bored with standard rock. I'm bored with the standard 'cool'."

Design Desire spawned four singles including Mammalian Locomotion which prompted MTV US' Nic Harcourt to write "Abbe May plays a scorching guitar- she is the fucking shit" and influential blog Popmatters to proclaim "Abbe May is set to destroy the entire rock world". The dark, yet unmistakable pop fusion of the album achieved a near clean sweep of four star reviews and led to national tours and inclusion on some of Australia's biggest festivals including Big Day Out, Pyramid Rock and Meredith.

Kiss My Apocalypse is a completely different animal. Minimal guitars. Maximum synth driven doom pop. It's as if the vocals took over while the guitars were passed out in the bathroom.

"Pop is sexy when done well and it's incredibly difficult to do it well if you try too hard, " said Abbe. "We wanted to get away from music that took itself too seriously. I'm so tired of this whole shoe gaze - it-cost-a-lot-of-money-to get-a-haircut-that-looks-like-i-haven't-brushed-my-hair-in-months type sh*t. "Artists" in denial that they are basically just entertainers. Being an entertainer is more meaningful if you ask me. It's not such a selfish pursuit."

Daniel Champagne
Sunday, 9th June 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

I'm a 23-year old Singer, Songwriter and Guitar player originally from the South Coast of NSW, though I call anywhere home now. I picked up some music from my dad when I was five and since I left school and went on the road it's taken me on some pretty amazing adventures.

I've now performed all around North America, The United Kingdom, Europe and of course Australia...many times. Including some massive festivals such as our own Woodford, Byron Bluesfest, Port Fairy Folk and Falls. I've also had the honour of touring and sharing stages with some of my big heroes and inspirations such as Lucinda Williams, Judy Collins, INXS, John Butler and my all-time favourite Kelly Joe Phelps.

I released my first full length album 'Pint Of Mystery' in 2011 and have just finished work on the follow up - It's called 'The Gypsy Moon (Volume 1) I'm extremely proud of it, very exited/nervous for everyone else to finally hear the songs and will put it out on an Australian tour this April/May/June and then North America from July. I really would love you all to check it out, get the free download, share it with some friends and let me know how it all sounds to you?

That's what I've got to say...Here are some very kind things that people have written about me over the last few years...

"Today I saw the Future of Folk! - Festival goers flocking in their thousands towards the main stage to witness the young musical phenomenon from Australia dish out an absolute show-stopper at the evening's end."
Firefly Column, USA

"Watching Daniel Champagne perform is a once in a lifetime experience. He is a true prodigy that plays like no one else could possibly play unless they spent at least two lifetimes studying the art."
BW Review, New Zealand

"The superb talent of Daniel Champagne can't be explained by mere words; it must be seen to be believed."
FasterLouder, Australia

"There's a reason Champagne has an amazing reputation as a live performer."
Timber And Steel, Australia

"Australia's best young guitarist"
IFC President, Australia

"An amazing rising talent."
Rhythms Magazine, Australia

The Audreys
Saturday, 8th June 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

To label The Audreys as just another roots-folk band would be a tragic mistake.Taasha Coates should have been a nightclub singer, crooning like Lena Horne before a starstudded crowd at the Cocoanut Grove in 1950's Los Angeles. Tristan Goodall, on the other hand, would probably choose to be reborn as a member of Crazy Horse rocking out Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere in 1969.The Audreys is the common ground where these two extremes collide and, extraordinarily, coalesce.

Taasha and Tristan's musical partnership has endured plenty over the last ten years -
countless miles on the road cooped up in vans; hundreds of shows (from tiny dives to the
world's biggest festivals); a series of immeasurably talented band members; crippling writer's
block; relocations between Melbourne and Adelaide; three albums, each of which won an
ARIA Award for Best Blues & Roots Album (which has to be some kind of record!).

Since the release in 2012 of "Collected", a box set containing all three albums plus bonus
material, The Audreys have been hitting the road as a duo playing some beautiful venues
across Australia. Talented, warm and disarmingly funny, the pair delight and entrance their
audiences with grace and grit in equal measure. Come and see The Audreys play tracks from
all three of their albums (along with their signature quirky covers and a new song or two) at
The Speigeltent before they take off for the states to play South by Southwest.

Ash Grunwald + SCOTT & ANDY from THE LIVING END!
Thursday, 6th June 2013
Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

Ash's friendship with Scott Owen - world-renowned bass-straddler for The Living End - developed quickly around the coal pit in Ash's backyard over many a soy sausage and a surf report. The two gent's wives would form their band Mr Cassidy and soon enough, the lads themselves, would stand side by side on the stage as well. And as things tend to do, one thing led to another, and soon The Living End's drummer Andy Strachan would take to the road with Ash too, playing a handful of highly-received festival shows to Melbourne and Perth punters, who were delighted and shocked to see the coming together of these seemingly unlikely three.

And if it weren't already unexpected enough...after a couple of rocking shows, Ash and his unforeseen band comprising two of Australia's most successful, rock musicians would end up in a studio together recording live to tape, the heaviest, banging-est version of Gnarls Barkley's 'Crazy', known to man. Which of course, they would. Check 'em all out in the film clip:

'Crazy' film clip feat. Scott and Andy from TLE

Rather than let this sonic anomaly gather dust on none but the trio's own shelves of memory, Ash decided to send it out into the world - an aural totem of the spontaneity of life; and a cracking version of one of the world renowned bluesmen's all time favourite tracks.

'Crazy' single released as a free download NOW

And now they're taking it to the streets! Don't miss Ash Grunwald with Scott and Andy from The Living End tearing it up at a venue near you.
