==================

FIRST LINE SQUAD is an italian trio from Milan, formed in 2011 but individually producing electronic music since 2006. The name explains the philosophy of the project: before and after a gig, you can find the FLS members in the dancefloor, drinking cocktails and having a lot of fun! The sound proposed is dark and techy, but always funk and dancefloor oriented, and the dj sets are performed with energy and passion on the mixer.

http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/y418/TrustedSounds/Firstlinesquad.jpg

TELEKINESIS are a up and coming two man outfit hailing from Slovenia, driven by the creative minds of Smooth and Markoman. After working together for an extended length of time, they developed the 'Telekinesis' alias, and have begun to see immediate success, due to the very high production skills and a keen ear for the dancefloor. Receaving DJ support from all major players of the drum'n'bass scene, ranging form Pendulum and Black Sun Empire, to Matrix and Futurebound, they have seen great responces from crowds, be it in a track played by another, or sets preformed by themselves. Being singd to a large number of major ganre labels Telekinesis are currently working on a debut for their own label - Illegal recordings. After hearing a track, or attending an event by the dynamic duo, one can see nothing but big things in the future for the telekinetic tandem.

http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/y418/TrustedSounds/Telekinesis.jpg

SPADE started DJing as a high school radio selector showcasing fresh drum'n'bass and hip hop. Buying turntables in 2005 he had his stage debut in late 2006 in Ljubljanas Channel Zero. Countinuing with playing some smaller venues in Ljubljana, he was one of the founders of Soulless crew uniting young guns of Slovenian drum'n'bass under one banner. In the following two years, residenting in Channel Zero, he played all over the country including several gigs in Ljubljanas biggest music festival TrnFest. In 2009, after Soulless disbanded, he was recruited by Illegal alongside Smooth. His drum'n'bass selection is the most schizophrenic in his possey ranging from soft beats to Hardcore hitting shots, always contentrating on maximum dancefloor effect.

http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/y418/TrustedSounds/spade.jpg

TSUNAMI has classical education. Actively he began to spin in year 2003 and 2 years later he joined Illegal kru. Since the begining he is loyal to hard, dark and agressive sounds, often with additions of techno, hardcore and metal. In his carrier he played on several partys, at home and abroad with numerous global known dnb djs, like Counterstrike, Raiden, Gridlok, Bulletproof, Future prophecies, Cooh, Prolix, The Sect, Optiv, Evol intent. In year 2007, he and Markoman (Telekinesis) appeared also on festival Exit in Novi Sas. He also puts his mind intensively into music production. He can praise him self with some successful editions in conjuction with Markoman and also other perfomers on various publishers (m-Atome recs, Temper D productions, Culture assault recs).

DOUG WILLIAMS PRESENTS NAT 'KING' COLE
Thursday, 6th December 2012
Blue Beat, 16-18 Cross St., Double Bay

Nat 'King' Cole left behind a body of work that for many defines the American songbook, and continues to endear him to millions. An archetype of sleek, musical cool, Cole's influence remains, to borrow one of his best known song titles, unforgettable.

Nat 'King' Cole heads a short list of the most memorable voices in modern music. His impact continues to cross the world's cultural and political boundaries.

Nat Cole's "unforgettable" voice, with its honeyed velvet tones in a rich, easy drawl, is one of the great sounds of 20th century music. It took Cole the performer into a "white" world, and both influenced and opened the way for artists such as Ray Charles, George Benson and many more that followed.

Australia's premier Afro-American Soul/Funk song-man, Doug Williams, is the obvious one to tackle the Nat 'King' Cole song-book. He does so with grace, style, under-statement and respect for the artist and for the songs.

Nat King Cole was a massively successful and influential artist ranking with contemporaries like Frank Sinatra, Perry Como and Dean Martin, sharing hit records, international touring, radio and television shows, and appearances in no less than 23 movies. Seven chart entries were enough to rank him among the ten most successful singles artists of 1957. Tonight we celebrate a truly great voice and a career that still resonates today.

Featuring classics like Fly Me to the Moon, Mona Lisa, Nature Boy, Unforgettable, When I Fall in love, Misty, Straighten Up and Fly Right, Route 66.........

60 Years Young, the WA Ballet Shows Sydney its Neo
Wednesday 17th October 2012
Some of the Worlds best dancers and choreographers will be on show in Sydney when the West Australian Ballet bring their high flying diamond anniversary show, Neon Lights to Sydney Theatre in October (17-20).

Hitting the boards with four works that have traversed the globe, Neon Lights is packed with everything a lover of dance would die to see the heady highs, the powerful intensity and the beautiful form. Yet it is still packed with enough attitude, strength and interesting musical moments that ballet novices will find themselves enthralled by the show too.

The piece is a birthday celebration for the Ballet and to honour the beauty of dance, and their diamond anniversary, West Australian ballet will be giving away a $10,000 diamond from Linneys jewellery. The diamond, which is as beautiful as their dances is unset and will be awarded to one lucky person that purchases a ticket for their Sydney run.

Neon Lights searches the strange intricacies of human behavior through the beauty of movement and music. Putting the feats of the human body at the pinnacle of physical fitness on display, as dancers are held upside down with movements so fluid it appears they are in flight.

The luminary Ji Kylin starts the show with his piece Un Ballo, which translates to a dance. Kylin says, Un Ballo is an exercise in musicality and sensitivity between male and female partners

CHIRIMEROSAn energetic band with folkloric influences from all reaches of Colombia. From the Caribbean they take and play the Cumbian Gaita, Puya, Porro, Merengue and Mapale rhythms. From the Pacific they give us a taste of rhythms such as the Currulao, the Jota and the Porro Chocoano. These rhythms demonstrate the African influences mixed with those of indigenous and native Colombian. Finally, Chirimeros will perform traditional music from the Andean region of Colombia, which exposes us to Pasillo and the Banbuco. Band members include, creator Francisco Javier Castillo, Daniela Castillo, Alejandro Cardoso, Julian Arevalo and Jorge Forero. Their instruments are those of a typical traditional format, to name a few the Llamador, Alegre, Redobelante, Patillo de Choque, Maracones, Guacharaca, Guasa and an array of traditional wind instruments.

PAPALOTEPapalote - Justo Diaz, Olympia Karanges and Juan Carlos Rios, has performed widely throughout Australia and New Zealand for more than 3 decades. They have been spokespeople for the culture of Latin America and indefatigable cultural workers. In 1980 they created an educational performance, which has toured extensively throughout Australia and New Zealand. Their music blends the culture of three continents: the ancient sounds of traditional flutes, guitars and the rhythms of African drums. They were founder members of La Pea and when the international Latin American New Song Movement began, Papalote became a leading exponent of this movement in Australia, playing an important role in bringing a political message and the musical heritage of Latin America to the rest of the world. ASH GRUNWALD - TROUBLE 'S DOOR TOUR
Saturday, 18th August 2012
Mona Vale Hotel, Cnr Park St & Barrenjoey Rd, (02) 9999 4214
The release of his brand new album Troubles Door is the solidification of two years of change for Ash Grunwald personally and a reflection as well of the shifts in the world around us.

Since 2010s award-winning album, Hot Mama Vibes, Ash Grunwald life has been sizzling. After years of surfing the arctic waters of Victoria, Ash bundled up his two main ladies his beautiful wife and cheeky daughter and headed north to the warmer shores of NSW. His track Walking played a starring role in the Hollywood movie Limitless, new friendships were formed with Kram from Spiderbait and Vika and Linda Bull and a new home with a new home studio were built, from which was birthed his brand new album Troubles Door.

In the new songs, Ash along with his good pal and dubstep sideproject partner, Fingers - has created his most internal album to date, one that found life through the fiery breath of injustice; the frustration of severe political and environmental mismanagement It's some of my most personal songwriting, Ash says of Troubles Door. I had just done a benefit gig to stop coal seam gas mining. There were other issues going on at the time, you can take your pick really, and it occurred to me that our system just doesn 't work. We are experiencing the result of rampant unchecked capitalism.

Ash doesnt pretend to present answers, Troubles Door merely mirrors the modern twists and turns on the same old lesson never learned: a Governments willingness to trade the future for a dollar. But as is the case with the music he loves so dearly, its technology that has breathed new optimism into the age-old tale. One positive thread is the democratization of digital communications. I had the experience of being on a surf trip in west Timor on a sail boat that was made the traditional way, with wooden nails and having to haul the anchor up as a group! While I was there I received an email from a friend about the lock the gate campaign. It explained the exponential potential of each person passing it on and it made me realize that we really do have the power to reach each other en masse, regardless of geography or traditional media coverage. The implications of this are cause for optimism, as long as our apathy doesnt stand in the way.

Ash Grunwald has acted. Bringing together a record that serves up a cross-section of what it means to be living on a planet in constant balance between hope and despair, all the while striving to fulfil the greatest mission of all the presence of great times and the possession of a happy heart.

Troubles Door touches on the strength that now lies in community to keep each other informed no matter who we are or where we live. And just like the light and dark of the words, the music itself traverses many tales; the blues propelled by driving dancefloor rhythms, buoyed by hip hop beats and slammed by the dubstep crunch. Naturally.

Troubles Door is a novel, full of many colours and much food for thought, what pieces you take from it will be reflective of you. All thats being asked is that when this time you shake your booty, you shake your booty for change.

Cockatoo Island Party - Mardi Gras Weekend!
Friday 2nd March 2012
Island Bar, Cockatoo Island, Sydney
Before you plunge headlong into the Hieronymus-Bosch-with-sequins landscape of Mardi Gras, why not gird your figurative loins (or your literal ones) with a little civility? A day-time-into-night cocktail party on Cockatoo Island. Which, Iʼm sure, confirms your suspicion that two cocks are always better than one.

The glorious surrounds of Sydney Harbour, stimulating conversation, a gentle leewards zephyr and Kitty Glitter, Harry K, PowerPuma + DJ Booth and more straight up killing it on the decks. This will be the first time the venue has been used for a gay party!

Muckaty nuclear waste dump update April 2013
An article by Nat Wasley

Hello to all supporters of the Muckaty nuclear waste dump campaign. There are important developments regarding the proposed national radioactive waste dump outlined in the update below, please take a few minutes to read through. I am also happy to talk further if you would like more information.

To stay up to date via press releases and announcements subscribe to the BNI blog via the webpage on www.beyondnuclearinitiative.com or follow via Twitter: BeyondNuclearOz and Facebook: Beyond Nuclear Initiative

1. Proposed new site nomination The Northern Land Council and federal government recently sent a delegation to Spain to inspect a nuclear waste facility. The NT news reported on Thursday April 4 ["Top End Team inspects Spanish Nuclear Dump"] that 28 people travelled, including government officials and Traditional Owners. The resources used in taking such a large delegation overseas is a stark indication of political and financial investment in the Muckaty site dump going ahead – at any cost. In stark contrast, Traditional Owners opposed to the waste dump continue to fundraise themselves for interstate trips and initiatives to highlight their opposition.

In discussing the trip, the NT News said federal scientists have stated other sites are ‘better’ than the one currently being assessed. This raises and reinforces very important questions: If not the best site scientifically, why is the current Muckaty site still being forcefully pursued? Has there been an official study done on these other potential sites so they can be properly compared? Are site study reports available to the public like the ones relating to the current nomination?

With federal court proceedings around the current site likely to take years, the interim time should be used for an independent commission into radioactive waste management that is transparent, inclusive of stakeholders and broad-ranging, rather than choosing a site considered politically expedient and hoping the science will match up.

Traditional Owners have vowed to contest the nomination of any further sites on Muckaty and have called for support to make their demand heard loudly around the country : Â No nuclear waste dump ANYWHERE on Muckaty.Â

2. Tennant Creek rally and concert May 25May 25 marks six years since the Northern Land Council voted to nominate the current Muckaty site for assessment.

The annual community rally will be held on this date in Tennant Creek. This year we will also be having a concert with performers including: Sandridge Band (Borroloola); Winanjjikari All Stars (Tennant Creek); and; Kylie Sambo, hip-hop artist (Tennant Creek).

Supporters from across the Northern Territory and country are invited to attend. Organisations are encouraged to send a banner and flags along with representatives.

If you are unable to travel to TC for the event please consider sending a banner or message of support to be displayed or read. Contact natwasley(at)gmail.com to arrange this.

3. New NT Chief Minister and Federal Resources Minister There has been a change of guard at both Territory and federal level relevant to Muckaty. This provides an opportunity to revisit the current policy of pursuing Muckaty despite the obvious contest and lack of scientific basis for site selection.

New NT Chief Minister Adam Giles has stated he will consider what the community wants before finalising his position. He has been approached to meet with Traditional Owners opposed to the waste dump and we hope this meeting will be advanced soon to allow grassroots voices of opposition to be heard and represented.

New Federal Resources Minister Gary Gray has not specifically spoken on Muckaty since taking over the portfolio from Martin Fergsuon. In 2010 he was quoted on the NT News as saying he “strongly support [s]the decision of the people at Muckaty to make a decision about their land” but also that he ‘believed the process with traditional owners had been fair’ .  http://www.ntnews.com.au/article/2010/04/16/140271_ntnews.html .

Minister Grey has also been sent a request to meet with Traditional Owners.

Please take a few minutes to contact these two politicians and encourage them to meet with Muckaty Traditional Owners in Tennant Creek.

4. Photo exhibition: updated catalogue now available print on demand‘Manuwangku, Under the Nuclear Cloud’, by Jagath Dheerasekara, which presents the community and area affected by the waste dump proposal, is currently showing in Canberra at Manning Clark House Gallery. There was a very successful opening on April 7 and the exhibition will remain until May 4 before travelling to Brisbane and then ‘home’ to Tennant Creek. A full list of exhibition dates is available at: http://jd.photoshelter.com/page1

The photos from this exhibition are available for purchase with all proceeds directly supporting the campaign against the nuclear waste dump at Muckaty. Please contact natwasley@gmail.com for more information.

The Manuwangku exhibition now includes around 20 additional images and we have accordingly updated the catalogue with these and some exciting accompanying essays, including by Dr Catherine De Lorenzo, art historian and senior lecturer in the Architecture Program, Faculty of the Built Environment, University of New South Wales. The catalogue is available for $35 via a ‘print on demand’ system. Please visit  http://au.blurb.com/my/book/detail/4159127-manuwangku-under-the-nuclear-cloud#sell-pane for a preview and to purchase copies.
