A myriad of colours, huge explosions, non-stop partying and an escape from the everyday inside what is described as a pyschedelic wasteland. Welcome, one and all, to Defqon.1, Australia’s leading hard-dance festival, bringing together some of the biggest names in the genre to celebrate a unique and highly energetic style of dance music. Not for the faint at heart, Defqon offers a one-of-a-kind experience to its attendees, bringing together stunning visuals with festival traditions turned on their heads. The location is Sydney’s International Regatta Centre, which spreads the festival over nearly 200 acres of other-worldly atmosphere – a perfect fit for this incomparable event. The event was originally founded in the Netherlands, building up from a cult-following into one of the biggest events on the European dance calendar. Its influence continues to this day, spreading across to Australia for the first time in 2009. Almost instantly a success, the festival has grown from strength to strength and has secured a major reputation as a festival like none other on the country’s circuit.
Ever since the last firework went off above Defqon.1 2011, hard dance fanatics have been counting down the days to its return. On Saturday 15 September 2012, Q-dance will bring the festival back to Sydney under the banner of True Rebel Freedom. As past experiences have proven, there’ll be colossal production, sound and staging – and fourth time round, you can expect it to be more spectacular than ever.
All which brings us to the next piece in the Defqon.1 puzzle: the 2012 line-up. The Red Mainstage will again come alive with next-level theming and the likes of Headhunterz, Frontliner, Zany and Wildstylez while a host of coloured stages cover a range of different sounds. If you’re planning to really make a weekend of it, Q-dance is once again offering the ‘Extended Camping Experience’. The Silent Disco has been scrapped from the camping pre-party and replaced with an Open-Air Stage complete with powerful sound-system.
